Short-term English courses in Edinburgh

This English course is for people who wish to improve their general level of English. The course concentrates on improving all aspects of your English but we strongly believe in helping you to learn to speak English well so much of your time will be spent practising listening and speaking.

This English course is for people who wish to improve their general level of English but who also want an opportunity to do a little extra work in the afternoon to practise and consolidate what they have learnt in the morning session. With small groups in the afternoon you will be able to practise speaking more and to have conversations with your teacher using some of the English you learn during your course.

On the Intensive General English Course, you will follow the same programme as the Standard General English Course in the mornings, plus three afternoon classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, which gives you the opportunity to improve your communicative proficiency through discussions, topical debates, authentic materials and video. The Standard General English Course takes place every morning from Monday to Friday, leaving you free every afternoon to join the Social Programme or study in our Self-Access facilities. Your morning lessons are divided into two parts and you will usually be taught by two different teachers.

The General English course consists of 20 lessons each week and is the least intensive option offered at Kaplan. This course allows students to improve their English while still leaving time for sightseeing and leisure during their stay.

Are you interested in an English course that offers you some time for sightseeing in addition to comprehensive classroom work? A Semi-Intensive English course offers the balance to enjoy your destination and finish your course with a higher level of English. Semi-Intensive English Courses focus on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Private (One to One) lessons offer the best possible way to improve your English level quickly and effectively. If you choose this option we will give you an extensive level test so that your teacher can plan your lessons efficiently.

This course prepares students with the skills and strategies they need to make the transition to college and university. Students are encouraged to develop independence in a range of academic tasks.

On our Combination Course, you will follow the Standard English Course in the mornings and you will also have 5 hours per week of individual one to one lessons. These are designed to meet your individual needs and requirements and offer you the ideal opportunity to work on specific language problem areas with your own teacher.

Individual tuition is offered at all levels, from Beginners to Advanced throughout the year. Each of our specialised courses is designed to meet the needs of particular specialist areas.

The Intensive 35 course is the fastest way for students to improve their English skills, regardless of their starting level. The course consists of 20 lessons of general English, 7 lessons of structured study, and 8 lessons of elective English each week.

With private lessons you will have the opportunity to work at your own pace, on your own schedule, and tailor your lesson plan to your specific needs. You will be able to choose what areas to focus on with your teacher and maximize the value of your lesson time.

The Edinburgh Festival course is designed to help international students make the most of the theatre, music, comedy and dance performances at Edinburgh's famous annual festival of the arts, which is held in August.

A Home Language International immersion course means you live the language you are learning and is the fastest, most natural way to learn. You are staying in your teacher’s home, have one-to-one language lessons and continue to use and practise your language skills sharing the daily life of your teacher’s family during meals, conversations, visits and activities as they all take place in the language you are studying.
