Do you wish to conduct visa interviews in Arabic? Does your work require you to conduct field visits where knowledge of Arabic would help you build trust with local communities, communicate that you are interested in their lives, or just know what they are saying when the translator is not in the room? If so, then the Diplomats Program is the course for you.
This course is available to diplomats who are proficient in basic Arabic grammar and sentence structure.
This anthropological course offers an introduction to the peoples, cultures, and traditions of the Arab world, with a particular focus on Jordan. Through teaching students about Jordanian customs and traditions – and the contemporary debates that surround them – this course allows students to deepen their knowledge of the Arabic language from the entry point of culture.
Students interested in this course need to have already an upper intermediate level of Arabic to follow the classes.
Classes combine reading and listening and they will write a newspaper about Amman and cultural events with a journalist.
The higher-level media course builds upon the Media Taster course by increasing students’ insights. It provides an excellent opportunity to experience what it is like to be a journalist.
