Mendoza is located in western Argentina, in a region of foothills and high plains, on the eastern side of the Andes. Mendoza is a popular layover for people on their way to Aconcagua (the highest mountain in the Americas) and for adventure travelers interested in hiking, rafting, skiers in wintertime and other sports. Students interested in taking Spanish courses in Mendoza will certainly find many outdoor activities and interesting locations to explore throughout the city. Mendoza is well known for its wine production and its many festivals throughout the year. Although the climate surrounding Mendoza is very hot and dry, the city is well-irrigated and features lots of plush and beautiful greenery. The city is centered around the “Plaza Independencia”, the central main square of Mendoza with many interesting buildings, restaurants, and street shows.
