With 400 schools and offices in over 50 countries around the world, EF has helped over four million international students to make their dream of studying abroad come true. EF’s mission is to open the world through education. Our educational programs have helped people of all ages and nationalities become citizens of the world.
As a recent EF report revealed, English skills are highly demanded in a globalized economy. There is a strong and stable relationship between English proficiency and income, quality of life, ease of doing business, Internet use and years of schooling. In fact, EF's 2014 research report confirms many regional and demographic trends:
- English proficiency among adults is improving globally
- Worldwide and in nearly all the countries studied, women speak better English than men
- Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden have the highest rate of English proficiency
- The dominance of English in Europe remains much higher than in other regions and continues to improve
- Asian countries have very different levels of English proficiency, from a high level to the lowest levels
- Almost all countries in Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa have a lower level of English proficiency
