"Good and knowledgeable teachers."

Stefan Sjöstrand, student from Sweden

I actually thought everything was fine. The hotel was reasonably large/small with well-cooked traditional English food.

Staying in an English home is the best way to practise English and experience the British way of life, sharing the social life of the family, such as mealtimes and conversations. Hosts help our students to feel at home in their new surroundings by providing a genuine warm welcome and comfortable environment. Homestay accommodation also offers good value for money as breakfast, packed lunch and evening meals are provided every day.

All our homestay accommodation is close to our school – often just a short walk, and never more than a 20-minute journey on foot.

We take great care in selecting our homestay accommodation. We visit each host before using them, and continue to visit regularly. Being in constant touch with our hosts means that we get to know them very well and that also helps us to match students with hosts.

If you choose homestay accommodation, you can expect:

- a carefully chosen home to match your needs
- to be treated as a member of the home during your stay
- a single room if you are 18 or over (unless otherwise requested) furnished with a bed, storage, bed linen and towels
- your host to do a reasonable amount of laundry for you each week
- no two students with the same nationality in the same family (unless otherwise requested)
- full board (breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal)
- a key to the house (if you are over 18 years old)
- the opportunity to learn more of the British way of life
- a chance to practise English in social situations

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from Anglolang. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged £ 50 when you register.

School location

Anglolang is located in the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast. Scarborough has been the destination of choice for tourists since the 17th Century. It is the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast, where a warm welcome meets every visitor.

Scarborough has everything that is expected of an established British seaside resort which is rich in history, culture and charm. It has something to offer for everyone. It is a medium-sized town with a population of around 100,000. Unlike some larger cities, it is possible to walk to most destinations. Our students do not have the inconvenience and additional cost of having to use public transport. Anglolang is a ten minute walk from the beach and the town centre.
The town has two magnificent bays dominated by a medieval castle. The area around Scarborough is well-known for its beautiful scenery: along the coast; on the nearby moors; and also in some large areas of forest. It is ideal for walking or just enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the countryside. In addition, there are many small and attractive towns and villages nearby where you can find historic buildings and glorious views or you can simply enjoy a meal and a drink in a traditional British pub.

In Scarborough itself, apart from the castle, there are several museums, including the Rotunda, which celebrates the work of William Smith, recognized as the ‘father’ of modern geology. There is also a delightful Art gallery, which hosts a variety of exhibitions and activities.

For those who enjoy the theatre, Scarborough offers the world-famous Stephen Joseph Theatre. This is a 400 seat theatre ‘in the round’, which keeps all of the action close to the audience. The acclaimed playwright, Sir Alan Aykbourn, produces all of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre before they transfer to London.

There is a thriving local music scene with bands playing at many of the pubs and clubs throughout the week, whether your taste is for jazz, folk Indie rock, or even karaoke! And if you feel hungry there are restaurants and cafes catering for most tastes, from Mexican and Thai to Indian and Italian, not to mention the traditional fish and chips.

If you enjoy sports, you can surf, canoe or windsurf in either of the bays, or you can keep your feet dry and go walking or camping. You could try off-road driving or even join a llama trek. But if you prefer watching to taking part, you can follow the fortunes of Scarborough football and rugby clubs or, in the summer, become an expert on the very English game of cricket and watch Yorkshire when they play in the Scarborough Cricket Festival.

For those who want to experience more of Yorkshire, Scarborough is less than an hour by train from the wonderful city of York and two hours from the big city delights of Leeds, where you can find many of the same shops that are found in London.
