More about studying in Vichy »
The commune of Vichy is located in the department of Allier in Auvergne in central France. It is best known as a spa and resort town, drawing a good number of visitors each year. During World War II, it was established as the capital of the French State. Its natural spas and thermal baths are the main reason for visitors to seek out this lovely place. Students enrolled in French school in Vichy will quickly learn that there are a number of other attractions in the area that are worth visiting as well. During their stay, students should be sure to visit the Saint Pourcain Vineyard. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the entire country. There are also a number of chateaus and other mansions in the area that are beautiful to visit. The Volcans Nature Park is another popular destination. This volcano park is the largest natural park in France. Visitors come from all around to enjoy hiking, cycling, rock climbing, hang gliding and hot air ballooning. Visitors should be sure to make a stop at the Opera House. It hosts a variety of performances throughout the year including music, dance, theater and of course, opera. Students taking French courses in Vichycan expect to experience a continental climate. They may also experience some characteristics of a mountainous climate because of the nearby mountains. The Massif Central area is prone to heavy snows, but Vichy itself does not typically receive large snowfalls. The area does experience moderate rainfall throughout the year.
