Course description

The TOEFL Crash Course is a great way for students to quickly learn the skills needed to succeed on the TOEFL exam. The course lasts 4 weeks, and has been designed to give students the skills they need to improve their score. The course uses authentic test materials so students can practice and prepare for all the sections of the test while gaining a feel for the exam.
Please note that the first day is mainly focused on pre-test and orientation
This is the timetable of the student:
08:30 - Student arrival and check-in
09:00 - Placement test and interviews
11:00 - Welcome breakfast and orientation with various EC staff members
12:00 - Welcome tour of school neighbourhood

Students taking courses with 20 or 24 lessons per week will not have class on the first day due to orientation, while those taking courses with 30 lessons per week will have two classes in the afternoon on the first day after orientation.

Course topics

The 4 course sections include: writing, speaking, listening, and reading. Writing instruction focuses on strategies for completing the independent writing skills section of the test. Speaking instruction will focus on confident speaking on many different topics. Listening strategies will help students listen for the gist of conversations, the details of lectures, and will cover different English accents. Reading instruction will focus on scanning for meaning and details, as well as summarizing and making inferences about the text.

"Inspiring Private Lessons"

Martin Bjærge, student from Denmark

I chose private lessons to get the most impact during the short period of time I was in New York. My teacher Claire Giovino was a really inspiring teacher and she was really good at giving me personal feedback on my learning goals that she also helped me define during the first lesson.

I have the greatest respect and gratitude for her way of teaching me, and i'm impressed by how much my English skills improved after my six lessons.

"Nice way to meet people and opportunity to learn about American culture. But not the best way to learn English I don't feel any improvement"

Galit Amara, student from Israel

The staff in the school were very nice, the teachers were nice, the location is perfect, there were too many students in the class, though. The groups were too big, there is no focus in your needs, it was just a general class. The school is too expensive for what you get.

"Amazing"

Claudia Hald Kimø, student from Denmark

I loved my teachers and the location of the school was perfect! So close to my residence (the New Yorker, which, by the way, was horrible), and close to almost everything! All in all I enjoyed my stay in NYC very much.

"Wonderful"

Álvaro Francisco Jaramillo Cisternas, student from Chile

I spent 12 weeks in EC NY. The school is very good. The teachers are mostly good and kind. The activities are awesome, and you can make a lot of friends there.

The best part of all is the location - very central.

"I wasted time"

Boris Melamedov

I've been to EC four times for week. First time was excellent, but the last one was very bad.

I spoke less than twenty minutes in classes during the week at my last visit EC. My mistakes were not corrected. The studied material was not repeated in subsequent classes.

We spent a lot of time on strange games and activities that didn't help me study English. For example, we were looking for something on the Internet in the class - I could work with computer at home. Another example: we had to imagine ourselves that we are blind and go from one room to another with eyes closed and look for something there.

In spite of this, you can find excellent teachers in EC.

"Regarding my experience in EC, actually it was very short and I cannot judge whether it is good or not."

MUHAMMAD ALOTAIBI, student from Saudi Arabia

Regarding my experience in EC, actually it was very short and I cannot judge whether it is good or not.
However, my notes as follows:
-The tuition cost is higher than the other school
-School faculty are not skillful enough

Moreover, when the student having a good basis in English language, unfortunately there is no technique to sharpen the student's skills and improve his language.

"In the heart of Manhattan"

Olivier Meyer, student from Switzerland

I especially appreciated the school's location in the middle of Manhattan. I was also lucky because I only had good teachers. I heard from other students that one or two teachers were really bad and lazy. One negative point that I have to say, it is that the wireless was very bad.

"Great fun"

Ignatyeva Daria, student from Russia

Some teachers were really great, but mostly they were bad, boring, and didn't teach a lot. Activities were great. Location of the school is great. For learning English I wouldn't recommend this school. But if a person wants to have fun, to see NY, to meet new people and to have some classes, the school is good for that.

"Best summer in EC NY"

Lyaskovik Alina, student from Russia

I'm really grateful to everyone who helped me to choose EC. I was in NYC for 3 weeks and they were probably the most amazing weeks ever! Lots of activities to do, and excellent teachers (Anastasia, Nathan and Adriana). Really cool and useful. I could go to D. C. and see everything I wished of American history. So I can conclude than New York is a wonderful city. There is everything in it; everyone can find something special and enjoy it.

"Excellent Language School"

George Akopov, student from USA

The school is excellent and teachers are awesome. They really encourage you to learn the language. I took the 4-week TOEFL Crash Course and there was a lot of work to do, but the teachers really made it quite easy. They really helped me a lot, I got 108 on TOEFL test a week after I finished my course in the school.

"The best combination of studying English and traveling."

Kirill Krugliakov, student from Russia

Classes and teachers are very good, but I think the number of students in some groups sometimes is bigger than it should be. Location of the school and dorm where I lived is perfect! Times square, what can be better?
Housing in EHS was pretty good, Actually it's hard for me to say what I didn't like, 'cause I value location, people and view from my window much more than personal comfort.

Rooms have a comfortable bed and blankets, sheets, bath towels and pillows. There are storage facilities with drawers and closets with adequate hanging space. You will have a desk or table for private study, a reading lamp, a mirror, and a waste paper basket.

Additionally, you will have access to common areas such as the living room, kitchen, dining room, etc.. Some hosts may have restrictions on using the kitchen or bathroom.

It is unusual to have a washing machine in apartments. Most homes have a common laundry room in the building or there will be a laundromat nearby.

visa

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.

Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged $80 when you register.

Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.
