Course description

This programme offers communicative-based classes which cover a wide array of topics, aimed at inspiring students and immersing them in Oxford’s rich culture and academia; from traditional British etiquette, to leadership skills, to preparing and delivering an effective speech or presentation.

With a strong emphasis on authentic communication, the summer school programme delivers stimulating, relevant and learner-focused English tuition. 15 hours of tuition are included in this programme, plus 3 additional hours of Workshops.

Our carefully planned lessons take a communicative and task-based approach and cover a wide variety of topics. Often, they relate directly to activities and excursions which students will join during the programme.

Lessons will take place either in the morning or the afternoon. Students will know which group they are in at the start of their first week. Morning lessons are from 9:30 to 13:00 (with a 30 minute break), and afternoon lessons are from 14:00 to 17:30 (with a 30 minute break).

Classes are complemented by a wide and exciting array of social activities. For example, depending on the weekly social programme, students might visit the famous Christ Church College or beautiful Blenheim Palace, try punting on the River Thames, explore Oxford University’s many museums, or perhaps experience a classic British afternoon cream tea.

"Fastantic"

Sofia Teresa Ferreira Duarte, student from Portugal

The classes were not stresssful at all! I was having so much fun in the activities and in the classes while learning. I wished I could stay for a little longer. And at the same time I was learning some new words.
The teachers were very nice, kind and were really helpful, always trying to help as much people as they could. The staff people were really nice and kind, always trying look out for us. I didn't really mind the location, although I had to walk a litle bit from school to my dorm but it was nothing much. Summarizing it was fine. The activities were fun. Well, there were like one or two that weren't so interesting but we can't like everything. The building was very pretty and gigantic (it looked like a castle), the dorm had a good size. In the beginning I wished there was there someone to help us on scheduling our day, the time that we nedeed to be ready and when was time to sleep. We could all known the time to fall asslep and to speak low/softly. Maybe we would had sleeped a little better on the first days. (Since I was an Independent Student, went through that because I had no direct responsible to talk to).

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from Oxford Spires. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
