Thousands of students come to California every year to study English, but very few discover an authentic experience. California Language Academy was founded on the idea that language is living and vibrant. It must be experienced in order to be fully appreciated and understood. We believe that learning a language is achieved through hands-on, real-world practice.
At California Language Academy, we are passionate about getting to know each person who walks through our doors and we go out of our way to create a warm and personalized classroom experience. That’s what makes us different! Students can also enjoy engaging in after-school activities to ensure that they continue learning and applying their skills.
We are an intimate, student-focused, ACCET-accredited, SEVP approved language school with two
Southern California locations. The surrounding area is home to wonderful neighborhoods and we take great care to select only the most caring homestay families so that each student is fully immersed and benefits from a genuine community.
We look forward to personally welcoming you to our fun and unique California Language Academy family!
CLA has partnerships with the following universities and colleges in USA. You can gain full or conditional acceptance into one of these institutions.
The nationality and age mix at California Language Academy varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 25. In the summer, the average age is 13.

Everything that happens in the world happens first in Los Angeles! Los Angeles is the entertainment

Los Angeles is definitely the place to be!
CLA Los Angeles:

• Located in Silicon Beach, next to companies like Google, Yahoo!,
YouTube, Microsoft, Konami and many more!
• Near attractions like Hollywood, Disneyland, Beverly Hills,
Universal Studios and Six Flags
Classes were ok.
The first teacher Kris was strange. I guess, he did not have any lesson plan. We attended his class only one day and asked to transfer us to another teacher. The second teacher, Philipp, was great! We enjoyed the classes very much!
The orientation session took the whole 1st day at school, unfortunatelly, no lessons were provided that day.
Friday is called as a speaking club/accent reduction day. We visited one Friday, faced Kris again with no plan, we just lost our time and did not come next Friday.
So, from our 9 days payed we really got knowledge only during 5 days.
Location was good.
Housing was good and near the school, but surprisingly was not clean and had no towels and hairdryer.
And the main problem still not solved: I can not receive the refundable deposit for the housing back - $600! I dont understand why!
First I gotta say this school definitely has some people that really make effort.
The classes were pretty mixed in the age, which is really good. All students were really nice a it wasn’t hard to make friends.
Some teachers are really good, especially Philip is an awesome teacher. He really teaches new things every day and tries to include every single student. With his knowledge in a lot of topics it is really pleasant to have conversations with Philip.
The location of CLA is good, it isn’t a bad area.
All in all I would say this school is perfect for people that plan to stay at least 2-3 months, and start with a solid knowledge in the English language. The school is very helpful if you have any issues, the will always find a solution as far as they can.
Anyone who thinks about staying with a host family, do it. There isn’t an better experience, especially your language improves a lot.
On first you get a test, that the school know, how well your English is. You can do this test before you start the school. At school they showed me my class and introduced everyone. Always very friendly and helpful! The lessons are also great. At class we talked a lot about different subjects to make speaking much easier. We also wrote some texts or learned more about grammar. Everything was very helpful for me and speaking English after "CLA" works much better.

But I could enjoy study and life in Los Angeles.
A explanation by using several examples is very good and I can see easily.
Talking with teachers and students are fun.
On top of that, I do home-stay. The host family is very kind and I could relax in own room.
i stayed 2 weeks in CLA, the teachers are very good, and the people are very friendly.
I wanted to stay longer
its a good program to meet people, learn English and visit California
I liked so much the didactic of classes!
It’s near the airport, what can help people that never have been in LA.
Teachers and the whole team have inspired me a lot, as a teacher
I am teacher, I am Band Director in a Middle and High School Band in Brazil.
The way They were so kind with me since the very first moment at the School was unforgettable!
Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Los Angeles. These homes are often between 5 - 60 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.
Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.
Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Los Angeles based on your budget, schedule and preferences.
