AMAZONAS EDUCATION & TRAVEL (formerly Amazonas Spanish School) is an umbrella organization specialized in Spanish courses, volunteer programs and trips in Ecuador.
We are the official Spanish School where de Diplomats of the US Department of State take their immersion Spanish programs in Ecuador. We are leaders in teaching intensive Spanish courses in Ecuador (one to one and small group classes) in the following locations: Quito, the Jungle, the Coast and the Galapagos Islands. Our main school is located in the heart of Quito's commercial-touristic district (La Mariscal), 1 block north from the Hilton Hotel. The school's excellent location and its wide variety of Spanish courses, volunteer programs, and trip opportunities make it an ideal location to study Spanish. Students can choose from general Spanish courses, Medical Spanish courses, volunteer programs or Spanish courses for executives, among others. Students can take from 20 to 35 hours of classes per week.
In order to provide a truly "Full Spanish immersion experience”, we carefully screen Ecuadorian families and arrange home stays for interested students. Our families are located near the school, in very good and safe neighborhoods of Quito. The family will provide a private room, 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), laundry service and the best opportunity to practice the language with native speakers and share our Ecuadorian customs.
Regarded as one of the most prestigious Spanish Schools in Ecuador, Amazonas E&T is one of the leading Spanish schools in South America because it focuses on high quality, professional and structured instruction. Amazonas offers additional services that include the use of the Hilton Health Club facilities (swimming pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, and Turkish bath), a computer room with free internet access, WIFI, pick up service, a cultural activity per week, study materials, among others. Our students are from all over the world!

AMAZONAS EDUCATION & TRAVEL (formerly Amazonas Spanish School) is located in the heart of Quito's commercial-touristic district (La Mariscal), 1 block north from the Hilton Hotel, directly on all major public transportation routes including bus and trolley lines. It is surrounded by many restaurants, 5-star hotels, shops, stores, bars, and tourist attractions. The school's excellent location and its wide variety of Spanish courses, volunteer programs, and trip opportunities make it an ideal location to study Spanish.
I booked a Group course but received one-on-one lessons only, because I was the only student during the three weeks. My teacher was highly qualified, professional, and personal at the same time. I enjoyed the lessons very much and learned what was possible within the time given. I liked her teaching methods which consisted of 50% conversation and 50% focus on language and grammar.
The school was situated 2 kms from my homestay - a perfect distance for a walk - and in the center of Quito, which was nice.
The interior of the school was warm and welcoming - of course it was a little strange to be the only student - but I had a good and pleasant time with my teacher.
The 3 cultural activities were fine, and for me they were sufficient because I also like doing things on my own; it is exhausting to be in a one-on-one learner situation for 8-10 hours!
My homestay was okay. I didn't need or want to eat 3 meals a day - I preferred the independence - but the family was friendly and we also did some things together. My room was big with a private bath, which I liked.
It was difficult to practice my Spanish with my family because I was too tired after lessons and their Spanish of course was harder to understand than the teacher's!
I now know that next time I book a Spanish course I will prefer one-on-one lessons, and I will book an Airbnb instead of a homestay - the latter is better value for money - and you can get the personal contact and practice your Spanish anyway!
Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying Spanish in Quito. These homes are often between 10 - 30 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
Your letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Quito based on your budget, schedule and preferences.
