Istituto Galilei - Intensive Individual Italian language courses
Individual Italian course “A”
4 hours of individual Italian language per day, from 9am to 1pm or from 3pm to 7 pm. This Italian course is basic and advisable for those who wish to have free time in the afternoon or in the morning for visiting Florence and the Tuscany or for other activities.
All our individual Italian Courses are given by teachers who have been selected for their specialization of teaching Italian to foreigners and for their natural qualities of communication. In the individual Italian courses, particular aspects of the language such as grammar, conversation, syntax etc can be explored or emphasized according to the students' wishes. In addition, students can request to be trained in the vocabulary of their occupation or area of interest (business vocabulary in general, marketing, finance, tourism etc.). Students can be trained specifically for exams.
We advise this course for Italian teachers, whose mother tongue is not Italian, revision of advanced grammar and language structures and ideas for the planning of the lessons at their school.

The intensive Italian Language courses offered by the Galilei Institute in Florence are specially designed for those who have only a little time to study, and want to make the most out of it:
- private people of all ages, who study Italian for their personal needs or for passion
- language students, who need to prepare for their Italian exams
- business people who need the Italian language for work
The one-to-one courses are characterized by the individual study programs, which are tailored to the linguistic needs and the profile of each student taking into consideration his/her linguistic background, age, motivation, and learning structure. In this way, it is possible to focus also on particular aspects of the language, such as grammar, conversation, pronunciation, etc. and/or to include the vocabulary of the Italian language you use for your work/study.
In the process of learning a language, the fact of being continuously followed by an experienced teacher and practicing the Italian structures actively during this time permits to accelerate a lot the speed of learning. One week of our one-to-one courses corresponds to about a month with a regular size group class. The study program is developing according to the daily results.
Our one-to-one Italian language courses may start and finish on any day requested. On request, the courses can continue also during the weekend and on holidays in order to take full advantage of your stay in Florence.
THE TEACHING METHOD WITH PERSONALIZED PROGRAMS:
--Evaluation of the student’s linguistic needs and characteristics. According to the student’s profile decision on whether to favour a more conversational or technical-syntactical approach of teaching;
--Individualization of the student’s personal interests in order to assure that the course contents (subjects of conversations, readings, writings, etc.) are of his/her interest, which helps to facilitate the process of learning;
--Selection of the most appropriate instruments and their way of utilisation, such as conversational activities, audio-visual material, articles from newspapers or reviews, etc.;
--Controlling of the process of learning: small tests, guided conversations, graduated exercises in order to verify the results of the various stages of learning, and to decide on the exact ongoing of the studying program;
--Interpretation of the achieved results so that the student is aware of what he/she has learned.

The school is located in the center of Florence, only a 5-minute walk from the Cathedrale (Duomo). Florence stands to the Italian language like Oxford to English. Florence is the place where Italian was born and the first writers such as Dante and Boccaccio were Florentines. Still, at the present time, Florence is the town in Italy where a purer Italian is spoken while in other regions of Italy dialects are spoken and their heavy inflection in the pronunciation can give foreigners some trouble in understanding the language.
I booked 5 afternoons of 4 hours/day private lesson with my daughter. we very much enjoyed it but I would recommend 3 hours would be better as 4 is a long time to stay focused!
Federica was an excellent teacher - lots of energy and enthusiasm, very clear with her teaching and constantly changing the tempo & mode of learning to keep it fresh.
I would definitely recommend having a private lesson for 2 people - it worked very well
I thought Galilei was professional and friendly. the location within Florence was very accessible. we booked an apartment for 6 nights which was an easy walk away.
we liked everything but maybe some role play where we have to talk more in Italian would have been useful at the end of the week.
my only negative was the booking system with Language International. it wasn't so easy or clear and I didn't feel reassured that it was a bona fide company for making the bank transfer due to the basic screen info online on the payment page so i ended up spending more to make a credit card payment just to be more secure.
Dear Helena,
thank you very much for your feedback.
It was a pleasure having you and India here at our school.
We will be happy to see you again as soon as you will decide to continue your studies!
Con tanti saluti da Firenze,
Giulia
The location was great near the Duomo so after class I was near everything. The tutor was wonderful and outlined the program to exactly what I was looking for. When I needed some help with access to galleries they were extremely helpful.

I liked the Instituto Galilei, because they were small classes, a great teacher Antonio and good people!!!!
I could speak a lot of Italian. This was very important to me.
I would like to do my next Italian course at this institute.
My accommodation was also great!
The location is great, in the middle of Firenze. The teacher was great: patient, had a good understanding of my needs and was really flexible to adapt to our levels. There were 2 of us in the class so within 2 weeks, I feel like I could already progress a bit, which is not bad since I started learning Italien from scratch.

Then a free lesson trial is offered to the students to assess their levels and needs/expectations.
I chose the individual classes. I had the chance to be with Silvia, highly experienced professor. Quite demanding but fair and motivating.
I opted for 1 hour and 30 minute-lessons, twice a week for 4 weeks. I have learnt a lot !
Meanwhile I was also following some group classes in another school and clearly, individual classes make a whole difference !!! And you learn so much more !
What I loved was the fact to go to my own pace... and really focus on what I needed or was having difficulties with.
I did one tour of the city only and it was great ! The teacher/guide was truly knowledgeable and very nice.
Hello, my name is Adriana Herrasti and I've taken three courses in this institute: Cooking at the Villa in Fiesole, Art History and Italian, and the 3 of them have been amazing. I'm personally a fan of small groups or 1:1 lessons because I get the chance to advance in my own pace and I don't get distracted.
The customized treatment since you arrive to the institute and have a first conversation with Tania, makes you feel very good, like they really care about you. Then the teachers that I have had in my courses are very well prepared and have me completely involved in their lessons. I have taken courses in 2 other schools in Florence, but I truly think Galilei is the best. Nevertheless it`s the most expensive I have to say.
I haven´t gone yet to other activities or experienced housing with them so I cannot comment a lot on that.
I will always come back to this Institute, I think that Tania and her team are doing great and their content and personal treatment to their customers is their great strength. I look forward to come back again.
For the next question: I took some courses in 2012 and another one in 2016.
I enjoyed the classes. I was in a small group with an excellent, well organised and knowledgeable teacher. The school staff were very friendly and welcoming. I learned a lot in just 5 days.
Show details » Read more...I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 weeks of individual language instruction at Istituto Galilei in Florence, Italy. This is my third time in as many years that I have taken individual courses with Istituto Galilei. I do believe the one-on-one instruction has allowed me to learn Italian much faster than in a group setting; we are not limited by a generic plan. The courses are tailored for me: we can adjust the classes to spend more time on topics that I am weaker, or we can go into advanced topics as well. The facility is centrally located in Florence, close to the Duomo - and within walking distance of the SMN train station as well as many museums, churches and special locations in Florence. The school facility is clean and organized. The staff are very helpful, not only with any needs about the instruction, but also with questions about Florence - the "how do I...?" questions. The instructors are professional instructions, highly knowledgeable and competent as well as very personable. It's always sad to leave when one's studies are over. (But there's always the next time.) I also have to say that the Institute is very focused on providing a satisfying experience for the student/client. They always have time to help. I have been particularly impressed with their housing service - they work with a large group of people to find the housing arrangement that works best for each client. They go well beyond "one size fits all". I am an adult student and I was particularly impressed with how well my hosting experience went with a Florentine family. Both the family and I enjoyed our time together. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend Istituto Galilei for business clients or for adult students. While they do have younger students, I have noticed many individual adult students of varying ages at the Institute over the years, and they have had positive experiences similar to mine.

My teachers were very good, one of them concentrated more on speaking and giving basics on grammar, the other one very structured, doing exercises and repeating the topics from the morning. Overall I enjoyed the way of teaching from both - it was a good mix.
The school is located in the center of Florence, two minutes from the cathedral. The staff at the school were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were okay. Only thing which was not so good were the chairs - since we would be sitting for six hours, I would expect office chairs.
The apartment of my family was about 20 minutes walking distance to the school. The family was very nice, bed room and my private bathroom were fine for the week. Breakfast was a typical Italian one, basic, but fine. Dinner was perfect, Riccardo is a very good cook. Communication with the family was okay, although challenging after a whole day of school. The only thing which I would mention is that the family did have two dogs and I would have appreciated if I would have been informed about that before.
Overall the week was very good, I learned a lot, but it is difficult to remember everything and I need more time to practice.
I very much enjoyed the course and my instructor Sylvia. She taught me the fundamentals that will allow me to study and much more quickly learn to speak Italian. This is what I needed, as I already know a good deal of vocabulary but did not know how to use verbs or grammar. The course was well worth it. The location was great and an easy walk from the apartment I rented. Thanks for everything.

My teacher, Antonio, was super. He knows the subject brilliantly and the most important thing is that he knows how to teach.
I really recommend the school!
Have fun!
