Who we are:
We are English Language House also known an ELH. We are an EFL/ESOL/EAL Tuition and Training Centre based in Milton Keynes and we offer English lessons to students in-person at Elh and live online via Zoom and Microsoft teams.
We are the only private language school in Milton Keynes, accredited by The British Council, which can provide visa support documentation to students who need a student visitor visa to study English in England for up to 11 months.
We are a Cambridge Open Examination Centre and run English language exams for international students.
English Language House was established in 1998. We taught our first class in a small training room with just 3 students! Since then we have grown mostly through word of mouth! This means that our satisfied students told their friends about us and they also came to learn English. In this way, we grew and we now have 5 classes and over 250 each year. We are very proud of the quality of our language classes and we are even more proud of our students' achievements.
Many of our students improve their English and go on to find better jobs and better salaries. Other students take EFL/ESOL examinations and gain entry to English speaking Universities where they study an undergraduate or post-graduate course. Sometimes we also teach English to visit professors from Universities abroad who need to improve their English.
Where we are:
English Language House is in the very centre of the Milton Keynes community. We are inside one of the famous landmarks of Milton Keynes, "The Church of Christ the Cornerstone".
This building, which was opened in 1992 by Queen Elizabeth II, is a centre of community activity in the Milton Keynes area. Apart from English Language House, many other organisations have offices and rooms here and use the building for conferences, music concerts and much more.
Our location is wonderful for our students. After lessons, all the people our students meet are real English people, not just foreign language students and language teachers. This means that our students must use their English straight away after class and this is the best way to practise and see results quickly.
What we do:
We offer many different courses at a variety of different levels and run classes at our premises in Central Milton Keynes but also teach offsite in companies, universities and schools.
Most of our classes have no more than 8 students. Our maximum class size is 10. This means that our students get a lot of individual attention. We have excellent teachers and a very flexible programme of study. Our students can choose the language area they want to focus on, how long they want to study for, how many hours per week they want to study and how much they want to spend.
We are especially proud of the positive feedback we receive from our students and corporate clients. Their praise is verification that we are doing a good job, and our personal goal is to always continue to deliver the very best quality tuition and training.
All our classes are taught by qualified professional EFL/ESOL teachers. All our teachers have the CELTA qualification or equivalent (CELTA is an internationally recognised initial qualification in teaching English to Foreign Language students). Some are also qualified to DELTA level. (DELTA is a post-graduate qualification in Teaching EFL). Some of these teachers are also CELTA and DELTA Teacher Trainers and assessors for the University of Cambridge.
We have high expectations and we like to see our students succeed. We want all our students to see a significant improvement in their English, to meet their set language targets and to have the very best experience of learning at English Language House.
The nationality and age mix at English Language House varies over different time periods, courses and levels.
English Language House in Milton Keynes is located in the very centre of the city. It is directly opposite the CentreMK and only 10 mins walk from the train station. The school's excellent location means you are never more than a short walk away from all the main shopping centre with all the restaurants, coffee shops, banks and full range of shops nearby.
the level of the class was very different. I suspect that the school has too few classes to divide the students according to level.

The teachers are wonderful and lovely.
Thank you a lot!!!
I had a F2F training with 16 lessons. Unfortunately, my expectation was not reached, because of missing flexibility, individual adjustments and themes or focus on my weaknesses in usage the language. The lessons were structured as a school book and it seems that the trainer have to follow a plan. This plan wasn´t adjustable in my understanding. Also, to change for a lesson the location for more practicable or daily situation wasn´t possible.
At the end I didn´t get a feedback. Which areas of the usage the language are good or in which I have to focus more.
The teacher was definitely very well educated and also very calm and had a lot of passion with me. Great
The organization was far away from perfect. I had requested my schedule for lessons, the Thursday before I was arriving Milton Keynes. But it wasn´t finalized, my time proposals were complete ignored, because no other chance to get my lessons. So I had to change my business time schedule. That´s ok, but not perfect.
Honestly I´m very open and flexible, but this was not better as in my last school years. Sorry to say.

My assessment is positive. The teachers are very serious and professional, the redundancy is worth it, and the classes are very well prepared. In the classes there is a small number of students, which is welcome (between 3 and 10 students). Very nice and multi-national classmates, which make cultural classes much more enriching. As for the facilities, the academy is like inside a church, something that is a bit weird and it is hard to find it once inside the church, Although the classrooms are fine.
The first few days cost me a little because my writing and grammar level is better than listening and speaking. In the written assessment test they put me at an intermediate level but when it came to understanding and speaking I could barely keep up with the class. I tried a change at a lower level but he told me that there was not and that he endured at that level, that it would improve. I think if I improved even though I still think that my group was too tall for me.
The course I studied was Upper Intermediate and some Advanced classes. The classes were mostly fun and educational with few students, so teachers would give us full attention. I studied for 3 months during summer (June-Sep2018) so there were many students come and go ( sometimes I was alone in the class like private class) My favorite teachers are Claire and Andy. Claire‘s teaching was interesting with stories related to British culture and English‘s expression, also easy-understanding description for an advanced grammar. Andy‘s teaching was humorous, he has many expression to explain what is right or wrong, he wouldn't let go of mistakes and tried to improve your mistakes of grammar‘s error , which was very helpful. The staffs were quite helpful as they can. The building was clean and located in the centre area, opposite to Mark&Spencer. I barely had any unimpressive experience, except the toilet, which is hard to flush away.
(Ps. For 3 months I studied there, there wasn't any social activity.)
It is a good idea to place a language school in a church. It increases confidence, especially when transferring the course fee. The school's inner environment is quite puritanical. There are no modern educational tools, no computer board, no projector, no bearer. The sound technology is poor. That is why teachers need to write a lot and quickly. This is physically burdensome.
But teachers are very good: most of them are patient, helpful, but they are passionate about it.
Overall, the three week course was very useful to me. In the beginning it was difficult for me because I was in the middle intermediate level and then I became intermediate at the end of the third week.
My English teacher in Budapest, who was born in English and said I had developed a lot.
