The GLS German Language School is located in the historic center of Berlin, in trendy "Prenzlauer Berg": After WW II Prenzlauer Berg ended up in the communist part of Berlin - with many intellectuals and artists living here. After the fall of the wall, the district boomed and became the trend district in Berlin. Some of the main Berlin highlights like Museum Island or Hackescher Markt are within walking distance from GLS.
The school overall is beautiful and well organized. The well-rounded class was made up of students from many different countries that the teachers blended well.
Early morning teacher Petra was always helpful and good-humored and competently taught us much of the grammar appropriate to our level of language proficiency.
In the second part of the morning, Ms. Doris, charmed us with her clear and fascinating method. Truly good!
The location of the school, for me, was perfect because it was easily accessible and well served by public transportation.
The extra-curricular activities offered were also always interesting, although I could not always participate in them.
The only thing that pained me was having to alternate between the German language I was learning and only English.
When I bought the course, I spoke in Italian with Sofia and I didn't really understand that, then, no one would speak it anymore. So I think it is absolutely important that it is well specified that you need to know English to communicate at the Reception, to the faculty, and also between students. I got very stressed about this! However, I am very satisfied with my experience.
The teachers were very committed to supporting their students when some of us struggled with certain chapters. The atmosphere was casual, every goal was reached each week. The courses were always very engaging and teachers helped us all come out of our shells a little better. It was always a pleasure coming to class. I also appreciated that when our main teachers were missing they were promptly replaced.
However I did believe that the covid restrictions were a little strict but I understand that they were necessary. Perhaps the main inconvenience was the fact that we had to change classes very frequently and our main teachers for the second block changed three times over the course of 6 months. It is always a bit challenging to get used to a new teacher.
The location was ideal with Mauerpark and many lovely cafes nearby.
I feel that my skills have really improved over the course of 6 months, I reached new milestones and I am motivated to pursue learning German and improving even further.
Very good program- maybe there should be a few more hours per day even for the beginners. Overall a very good experience! Excellent location in Berlin. Very convenient and fast access to the facilities, friendly teachers, well equipped classrooms and good academic courses. I would definitely return.

The accommodation was very good but with the small inconvenience of not being able to go down to the cafeteria with the wheelchair, they had to take me up to the studio for breakfast. The bathroom is adapted in an excellent way, but the kitchen is very small to use in a wheelchair and with very scarce utensils to cook; going with company is very good, but to go alone is a little complicated. The reception staff is also excellent. The cleaning service is regular, you never know when they are going to clean; we had a little disagreement but we came to an agreement. The transport for the displacements is ideal, with the tram you can do all the combinations that you need. In general, very good.

Everything met my expectation, location, reception, staff (competent and friendly), the grounds, classrooms, teachers, cantine...it was all very well thought through.
We had a small group of about 6-8 students (it depends on the week), very well leveled. We had two teachers, the same during the 4 weeks I spent there, so the progress was very clear. Teachers were competent, good humored and friendly, they new how to stimulate us, even though the pace of the program was sometimes fast (but that is what an intensive program proposes).
It was a great experience. I got to improve my German from a B1 level to the beginning of C1. The activities with the school like excursions on the weekend were also very well organized.

the overall experience was excellent.
Very good teachers. Some better than others. I have received classes from 10 different teachers. Only one of them deserves a bad rating.
All activities are very well organized. The management is efficient and whenever I needed something I was kindly looked after. Optional excursions and cultural activities also very interesting.
I have not stayed at GLS
What I did not like:
I did not like the fact that on one occasion I was awarded a group whose level was not the one that corresponded to me and I believe they did it not because of my level but because of the need for group arming.
In some classrooms on sunny days it was unbearably hot. And worse still in container classrooms.
The GLS is very well organised. The teachers that I had, Thomas and Theoman, were engaging, interesting and really fun. Unfortunately I was ill for the last few days of the course so I was not able to complete it but my time spent at GLS was great. Everyone was friendly and I learnt a lot.
