British Learning Academy originated from Brockhurst and Marlston Houses, a preparatory school with over a hundred years of history.
Since 2011 the company has grown fast, widening its range of courses and including innovative project-based and business-oriented programmes for individuals, groups and multinational corporate clients.
At BLA we are committed to providing the best quality for every student – for a career without borders.
Our courses align with the CEFR European Framework and vary from Trinity, Cambridge and IELTS preparation and exam courses, to General English as well as a range of work-based practical English Courses.
At BLA, we emphasise learning through creativity, with a focus on fostering effective communication and teamwork amongst other transferable skills. We create a fun, stimulating and collaborative study environment.
Interactive programmes are designed so that students can develop and practise the language and skills required to communicate effectively in a range of international business contexts, preparing students for work in the industry and for a global career path.
British Learning Academy operates from two centres: Chichester University and Brockhurst and Marlston House Schools.
Chichester campus is 10 minutes walk from the town centre with its shops, cafes and restaurants.
Once a Roman settlement, Chichester is famous for its Cathedral, Festival Theatre, Roman city walls and much more. Students really enjoy spending their afternoons in the centre, shopping and sipping their coffees at Starbucks!
Chichester is also very close to Brighton and Portsmouth: full-day or half-day excursions to both destinations are often included in the package.
Brockhurst & Marlston House Schools is a private preparatory school and as such hosts, English children aged 4 to 14. During half terms and summer break its beautiful facilities are used by BLA for its language courses.
The closest town to the school is Newbury, a historic market town and the principal town in the west of Berkshire, famous for its rare medieval Cloth Hall and an adjoining half timbered granary as well as its many listed buildings.
Students are regularly taken into Newbury with the school bus to do their shopping and explore the town centre.
Oxford and Windsor are both easily reachable from Brockhurst and are typical weekend destinations for full-day excursions.
Chichester University campus is set in beautiful surroundings, with plenty of green space to relax.
Founded by William Otter, Bishop of Chichester, in 1839 the campus offers a combination of attractive, historic buildings together with excellent, modern facilities.
In Summer 2012, a major refurbishment of the building was completed to further enhance resources and introduce a café, complete with ample social study areas. This award-winning, modern facility has an extensive and regularly refreshed library, complete with a large range of books, papers and journals.
On campus, there is a large refectory (a buzzing meeting point at mealtimes), and a smaller café for students and staff called Holts.
The campus is equipped with very spacious classrooms and auditoriums, outdoor spaces, two indoor gyms, rock climbing wall, football pitches, tennis courts, and many communal areas where students can gather after lessons.
Bedrooms are all modern and well equipped. They are single study rooms with a wash hand basin, wardrobe and desk in the room. Bathroom facilities are shared between six people, with a ratio of 1:3.
Bathrooms and communal spaces are cleaned daily, bed linens and towels are changed weekly. Laundry service is available on campus. There is free Wi-fi all around the Uni.
The closest airport is Gatwick. A shuttle service is available upon request.
BLA has partnerships with the following universities and colleges in UK. You can gain full or conditional acceptance into one of these institutions.
The nationality and age mix at British Learning Academy varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 15. In the summer, the average age is 15.

The activities were fantastic, both in the afternoon and in the evening. I hope to redo this wonderful experience and spend another two weeks like this.

I enjoyed every aspect of it.
The location was great, rooms were very comfortable and clean and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
Teachers were tried their best to help each one to get further and my English has improved very much while having fun (not like a school in Italy!!!)
Also, Making and selling t-shirts was a good opportunity to know other students & make friends.
I would definitely recommend it!!!!
I really liked my time at the campus in Chichester. I fell very independent with my own room and timetable to respect. The campus is beautiful very big and green, full of sports fields and the location was great. I really liked Chichester with the Cathedral and the old town. My teacher was very nice and funny. She made us study a lot and my English improved a lot.
The team leaders were awesome and we had a lot of fun with the activities they planned for us. Zombie night was my favourite! The food was not my favourite but I like to try food different from Austrian food!
The course was very innovative, the teachers and activity leaders were awesome and the experience was inspiring.
When I booked the Entrepreneurs programme I wasn't quite sure to what to expect. Perhaps some course that explained English business terminology and business practices. Instead we were immersed in a real business from day one. We have to design produce and sell T-shirts to real customers by the end of the two week's course.
I learned so much about business, the English working culture and my English improved a lot. I was using the language to do things, rather than just going to a boring english lesson!!!
Chichester is small but beautiful, with my friends I would go to Starbucks often in the afternoon. So many activities were organised every afternoon and evening. It was great!
The campus is surrounded by a park and very big. Full of students coming from different countries. We were busy all day long with lessons in the morning and doing activities and sports with friendly and funny team leaders every afternoon and after dinner. My teacher was great and we were doing loads of conversation so I improved my English. We also made t-shirts during afternoon laboratories and sold them at the local market. I was so happy to be able to speak to locals and sell t- shirts like a real business man! I would love to go back! The rooms very single so there was a lot of space for my suitcase and clothes.

The classes were always engaging and fun, focused on conversational and writing skills, grammar and reading but also full of information about the British culture. The teachers were very friendly and approachable, but, at the same time, very professional.
The school was located in the English countryside but also close to the seaside and the lovely town of Chichester. This made the experience very special, as we had the chance to do lots of outdoor activities as well as getting to know all about the history of the town.
During the weekends, we went on trips all around England : we visited London, Oxford, Cambridge, Stonehenge, Salisbury and even the Isle of Wight! The staff accompanying us would guide us throughout the day around the most interesting places and give us insights on them.
The team leaders would organize after school activities with competitions, talent shows, excursions, sports tournaments..we never had a boring day!
The campus and facilities were excellent and the food was always really good!!
All the staff in the school was ready to help you with any issue that you might had and they made our stay in the school wonderful!
I would recommend the British Learning Academy to wants to learn English but also wants to have a unique experience that will never forget!
