Course description

Our Art and Culture course combines our General English course with touring the cultural highlights of Cornwall. Expect to visit hidden beaches, art galleries, old English estates and gardens, restaurants, and Rosamunde Pilcher’s Cornwall. This is an unforgettable course, designed to breathe fresh air into your English learning.

At the end of a Skool course you will be a better speaker, reader and writer in English. You will feel like you have learned in a personalised way, far from busy classrooms, and away from the crowd. Some people might feel that they will learn better in large class sizes, but that is not what we offer at Skool.

Our English with Art and Culture course is designed for the discerning language student. We offer a varied menu of tuition each morning, placing emphasis on addressing your strengths and weaknesses in English language, whether spoken, written or in reading. We will explore grammar rules, tenses, and the idiosyncrasies of English.

Each afternoon we will explore Cornwall, and we’ll curate its history and culture. We’ll show you the sights and experiences that you can’t find on a map. We’ll tailor the programme to suit your capabilities. Perhaps you are interested in a walking adventure, and keen to spend your afternoons visiting the ruined mines on the Atlantic coast path? Perhaps you are more interested in a relaxed language tour, visiting English country houses, museums, galleries and restaurants?

Whatever you are interested in culturally, our expert teachers can guide you. We regularly visit:

The Minack Theatre
Lanhydrock House
Wheal Coates (Poldark’s Mine)
St Michael’s Mount
The Atlantic Coast Path
St Ives
The Tate Gallery
The Barbara Hepworth Museum
The Lost Gardens of Heligan
The Eden Project
Porthcurno Beach

Studying English should not be restricted to a classroom. We will personally guide you around Cornwall – a land steeped in beauty, art, myth and freedom. Explore ‘the road less travelled by’, make memories, become a more confident speaker, writer, and communicator in English. Each afternoon we will explore Cornwall with you, and we’ll curate its history and culture.

"The Lessons were varied, educational an my needs were taken into account."

Marianne Jungo-Julmy, student from Switzerland

The school is located in a renovated house of a former mine. The classroom is warm and cozy. I felt very comfortable. The teacher is very committed to the student learning English. It is a good mix of basic knowledge and challenge with texts or poems. Information about culture, nature or useful things was given continuously. That was very helpful for me. I was able to live with a very nice host family. St. Agnes is a beautiful village with a beautiful harbor. The people are friendly. I loved the many walks along the cliffs. I cant`t find anything negative, except that it rains a lot in November. But I knew that and took hiking boots and a good rain jacket with me. So it was no problem.

Staying with a family is is a great way to immerse yourself in the English and language, and a great way to explore English culture.

Host families offer continued opportunity to improve your English conversation. All of our homestays include a single room, breakfast and an evening meal. And most homestay accommodation is within walking distance of our classroom.

There is also a wide range of self-catering accommodation, hotels and B&Bs in St Agnes. Many are listed on the St Agnes town home page: https://visitstagnes.com/stay/. It’s a good place to start if a homestay does not suit your purposes. Please do get in touch, and we'll do our best to advise you.

St Agnes is a picturesque traditional Cornish village. Whilst it is not a busy metropolitan centre, hotels, self catering, and Bed and Breakfasts are in demand. Our advice is to book quickly to secure your accommodation.
