CAMP ADDRESS:
RESIDENCIA UNIVERSITARIA PIUS FONT I QUER
HOW DO YOU GET TO THE CAMP?
Pius Font i Quer Residence Hall is located in the Mediterranean Technology Park PMT in which we find the Baix Llobregat Campus of the UPC, a campus surrounded with nature and a lake, perfect for walking, reading and sports.
The Park is inside the metropolitan area of Barcelona at a very well connected location: beside the Olympic Channel, 10 minutes from the airport by car, 20 minutes from Barcelona by train and only a 10 minute walk from the beach.
A STUDENTS PERSPECTIVE
Positive points :
1. other students and teachers were friendly.
2. facilities in the British School where the lessons were held were good and modern.
Negative points :
1. we were told to arrive on the first day at 8.40 am for a language test, but we had to wait until approximately 9.25 am as the teacher was late. The day before was a national holiday but still it was not nice just to hang around not knowing what was going on and how long we would have to wait.
2. We were told before arriving in Spain and also on the first day that our class size would be under ten students (about 7 to 8 students). However in the end there were twenty students in the class for the whole two weeks of my course. The teacher did not say why this happened. Sometimes the lessons were boring and too easy because there was quite a wide range of abilities. I thought the language test at the beginning would prevent this.
3. We also had a new teacher after one week.
4. I wish there had been more group work with talking and that we had done more exercises out of the book. In the end we did not learn as much as I thought we would. There was too much writing and copying from the board.
5. After two week a few of us left the school as we had only booked two weeks, it was like we just walked out of the class room. We didn't even get a certificate or a "proper goodbye" which was a bit sad.
A PARENTS PERSPECTIVE
We accompanied our son to Barcelona University campus on the first day of his course. The young student guides who met us and the course participants were friendly and welcoming. Without them we would not have known where to go exactly and what to do.
However, those were the only faces of the Enforex Camp staff we saw. We did not get to meet one single teacher or director of the school nor did we see the classrooms or facilities because the course participants were taken to another institution (The British School) about 15 minutes walk away. Possibly we could have asked for some sort of tour of the facilities but there was very obviously nothing organised at all for the parents.
We saw some other parents in the same situation. It was a little disconcerting that there was no contact at all from the school who we entrusted to look after our child. No contact at the beginning of the course nor at the end of the course. Not even a short letter. We are left feeling very indifferent about the Enforex Camp which is a shame because had it been otherwise, we would have seriously considered putting both our son and daughter on a future course.
